Along with Aster Cordifolius (Blue Wood Aster) Aster divaricatus is an increasing favorite for people in our area looking for easy-to-grow natives that tolerate shade, deer, rabbits and drought.  Its dense colonies of underground rhizomes help it stay established among tree roots in woods and small clearings. Its fragrant flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies from late summer until mid-fall. It also hosts caterpillars of the Pearl Crescent and Checkerspot Butterflies.Interesting Notes:For more information on this plant, visit the USDA PLANTS Database: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=EUDI16
